1073: Systems Engineer

Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer to help lead technical design, planning, and implementation of our hardware and Operating System strategy. This role will serve as a technical expert with direct influence over the design and implementation of our trading systems. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, have a strong sense of ownership and be driven to provide technical solutions to business problems.

Responsibilities:

Providing technical expertise and guidance to structure a hardware strategy including standards, life-cycle periods, vendors, and capacity

Serving as technical operating system expert for Linux and Windows; directing migration to new OS standards, maintaining images and OS patches

Establishing guidelines and methods for the installation and management of host operating systems

Evaluating new hardware and software technologies; talking to hardware vendors, stay informed and up-to-date on next generation trading hardware, and making recommendations on new hardware platforms and other network technologies

Developing new applications and scripts to automate and improve operational reliability and efficiency

Maintenance, administration and capacity planning of data storage solutions

Maintaining the monitoring and alerting systems

Experience:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer/Information Technology, Computer Engineering or related field

5+ years experience in System Engineering/Administration or related field

Experience with scripting languages and source control; Python and Git preferred

Knowledge of configuration management tools such as Chef or Salt

Experience administering Windows Active Directory and Group Policies

Strong working knowledge of Hyper-V / SCVMM

Strong knowledge of storage technologies (EMC, Isilon, NetApp, XIV) and file systems (NFS, GlusterFS, ZFS)

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment

Motivated to identify and problem solve issues in a timely manner

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to work independently and in a team

Knowledge of the financial industry preferred
