Pioneers in the field of quantitative investing, we have an experienced team with broad expertise in quantitative methods. Our team members have contributed to systems that have consistently produced exceptional results in a range of markets for over two decades for large private portfolios. We are currently seeking a Lead Data Architect who will join approximately 30 other professionals working in Irvine, California in a team-oriented environment.
Position Summary
We are looking for a Data Architect who will take a leadership role within a software development team charged with managing large financial datasets. Some of the responsibilities of this role are listed below:
- Software architecture, design, development and support of software systems critical to trading, operations and research
- Design and development of software, including user interfaces and systems for generating derived datasets, reports and alerts from databases and system processes
- Architecting and technical specification development for software projects
- Design, development and maintenance of automated back-office and accounting systems and databases
- Software project and program management.
Skills and Requirements
This position requires both strong software engineering experience as well as the ability to effectively lead a team of software developers. Because of the culture and the relatively limited number of employees, a premium is placed on independent, self-motivated people who excel in their field of expertise and who demonstrate an ability and interest in learning new systems and technologies. We take a long-term view when evaluating new hires, so a candidate’s exact experience is less important than evidence that the candidate can achieve a high level of performance and can adapt quickly to find solutions in new areas.
We expect successful candidates to have experience in a number of the following general areas:
- Large software systems: experience architecting and implementing software systems, as well experience with design, specification, and development
- Project management: experience leading a team of software developers
- Programming languages: strong experience developing data management applications with languages such as Java or C/C++
- Databases: strong experience working with relational databases (especially Oracle)
- Large data sets: experience developing programs to parse, process, organize, and analyze large data sets
- System tools: experience with scripting languages (Perl, Python, shell scripts, etc.), and Unix-based operating systems (especially Linux).
Compensation
In addition to base salary, a substantial component of total compensation may be tied to annual bonuses that reflect individual performance as well as overall portfolio performance. Initial compensation is likely to be above $150k per year, perhaps substantially above this amount. The possible range is quite broad, and will reflect the experience level and abilities of the individual candidate.
